What is a Read-A-Thon?  Students commit to read every day for 13 days, from Fri. Sept. 9 – Wed. Sept. 21.  Reading minutes are recorded using the reading log. In addition to reading, the student contacts friends and family to ask for pledges to support their reading. 

How do pledges work?  Pledges can be either for the minutes read or a flat donation. If you get pledges per minutes read, you will need to follow up with your sponsors after the Read-A-Thon to proudly report how much you read and collect donations.  You can collect pledges online using PledgeStar or in person using the pledge sheet.

What is PledgeStar? Each person you email received a unique link to your page, it's completely private and secure.It is an online tool that makes it easy for you to share the Read-a-Thon with friends/family. Each family creates a completely secure and private page that can only be shared via email from within their system (no social media posting).  Each person you email receives a unique link to your page. Payments can be made online with credit card or a check can be mailed to the school.  A thank you note from your child will automatically be sent to those who donate online. The really great thing about PledgeStar is you only have to set up one page if you have multiple kids. The email you send your friends and family come for all your children and donations are split evening among them. If they make a pledge based donation, each child is given the pledge amount based on how much they read.

 How much time should a student read during this program?  We suggest a goal of 30 minutes a day for 13 days, but the sky is the limit!

Can a student participate in the Read-A-Thon, but not do any fundraising? Of course! We want 100% of Coyote Hills’ students to fill out and turn in their reading logs and read, read, read. Students can win prizes just for reading!
